AUGUSTA SWEEPS AIKEN TO REACH CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

From the PBC

AUGUSTA, GA – The Augusta University Jaguars took their first step towards what would be their fourth straight PBC Tournament title as they swept rival USC Aiken 3-0 in the semifinals on Saturday. Match scores were 25-17, 25-22 and 25-14. With the win, the Jaguars will play in the championship match on Sunday at 1:00 pm against the winner of the Flagler/Lander semifinal later on Saturday.

Match Notes

  • Augusta hit .324 as a team in the opening set, quickly setting the tone. With the score tied at three, the second-seeded Jaguars went on a 6-1 run. Third-seeded USCA fought back and cut the lead to three at 13-10, but AU responded with five straight points to begin a larger run that carried through the end of the set

  • USC led for the majority of the second set and were up 18-14 following a kill from Emily Lammers. Augusta came back with a kill from Alexis Diaz-Infante followed by two Pacer attack errors to trim that lead to one. Another Lammers kill made the score 19-17, but AU's Alyssa Dutton and Alyssa Frazier had back-to-back kills to tie the score at 19. Alisha Pitt's kill for the Pacers made it 21-20, but AU again rallied with back-to-back kills from Kylie Martin. AU then won three of the next four points, all on kills, and got the clincher from Julie Archer to take the set

  • Augusta hit .311 in the match as a team with only 10 attack errors in 122 total attacks. The Jaguars also had 66 digs to USCA's 56 and had 48 kills to the Pacers' 33

  • Martin led the Jaguars with 16 kills, hitting .441 in the match. Chloe Allen added 13 kills and seven digs while Holland Martin led the team with 34 digs and Ally Thees with 18 assists.

  • USC Aiken was led by Lammers who had a team-high 11 kills to go with nine digs. Kari Mercer led all players with 19 digs while Caroline Foster had 16 assists.

  • Augusta will attempt to become the first team in PBC history to win four straight PBC Tournament Championship tournaments on Sunday; teams (counting the current AU streak) have won three straight titles on six previous occasions
