PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team wrapped up day one of the Peach Belt Conference Championships with some solid performances across the board at the Dick & Lenore Taylor Track.
The Jaguars started the day off strong with junior Kiana Kelly standing in second in the outdoor heptathlon after her first four events. Kelly will be looking to push into first place on Friday after the conclusion of the remaining three events.
Kelly also snagged eighth in the javelin throw with a toss of 30.12 meters. She was followed by sophomore Mallory Howard in ninth with a throw of 29.57 meters.
Senior Lara Way won yet another event this season, taking home the title in the 10,000 meters with a time of 38:44.85. Way ran the second half of the race alone in almost a minute ahead of the field.
Sophomore Edrei Yates managed to qualify for the 100 meters final after taking seventh in preliminaries with a time of 12.74. Several Jags will also be competing in the 1500 meters final on Saturday after making it through qualifiers. Freshman Micah Weathers took fifth in the prelims with a time of 5:00.59.
The Jaguars look to build off their strong day one performances and will be in action on April 20-21 for days two and three of this year's Peach Belt Conference Championships.
