AUGUSTA, Ga., – The GRU Augusta men's and women's tennis teams released their spring 2015 schedule Dec. 10, according to head coach Michael McGrath, who enters his 17th season as head coach of the Jaguar men and women's tennis teams.
McGrath looks to build on the men's record in the 2013-14 season of 19-7 overall and 6-3 in the Peach Belt Conference and the women's record of 10-9 and 5-7. The men and women start their spring schedule with two non-conference matches on the road. On Feb. 1 they play at Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte, N.C., and then on Feb. 2, both teams head to Columbia S.C., to take on Benedict.
The men's team plays a single match and commences Peach Belt Conference play with Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga., on Feb. 4, and the women's team plays at Georgia College the following day, Feb. 5. The teams host their first home match against Lenoir Rhyne on Feb. 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Newman Tennis Center, home of the Jaguars.
The women take on Clayton State on Feb. 11, in Morrow, Ga., before facing Montevallo on Feb. 14, in Montevallo, Ala. The men get back into action at home with a doubleheader against Belmont Abbey and Queens on Feb. 17. Both teams travel to Sumter, S.C. for matches with Coker and Barton in a doubleheader on Feb. 21. The teams continue on the road against Flagler in St. Augustine, Fla., on Feb. 23 for another PBC match and both teams host matches to finish the month of February against Armstrong on Feb. 25 and Wingate on Feb. 28.
Play in March opens at North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga., on Mar. 7, before the women's team plays a single match on Mar. 9 at home against Clark Atlanta. Both teams resume play on the road against Erskine on Mar. 10, in Due West, S.C., and then play a string of home matches starting on Mar. 11 against Coker, Mar. 12, against Erskine, and Mar. 14, against the University of Indianapolis.
The Jaguar men play an additional home match against West Alabama on Mar. 13. Both teams head back on the road against Young Harris on Mar. 16, before the women's team plays a single match against USC Aiken in Aiken S.C. on Mar. 21. The two squads finish their road trip against Anderson on Mar. 25 in Anderson, S.C. The men and women head home to host a pair of matches against Columbus and Francis Marion on Mar. 26, and Mar. 28, to finish the month.
On April 2, both teams travel to face Lander in Greenwood, S.C. before finishing their season back home against Georgia Southwestern on Apr. 12. The Peach Belt Conference Championships will be hosted by Francis Marion in Florence, S.C., at the Florence Tennis Center on Apr. 24-26.
