Augusta Ga. – Augusta University's Men's and Women's Cross Country squads have earned region honors as they prepare for the National Championships in Sacramento, California.
Head Coach Adam Ward was named the 2019 Southeast Region Men's Coach of the Year. In his ninth year as head coach, he led the Jaguars to a runner-up team finish in the Southeast Region Championships with 47 points, the best finish in program history. Augusta also won the Peach Belt Championships, Queen City Invitational, and Pfeiffer Dual.
Six runners from the men's squad were named to the All-Region team. Jacob Burgamy, Chandler Kennedy, Chase Kennedy, Hunter Kimball, Jacob Poston, and Hans Troyer all picked up the honor. Burgamy is the lone senior named to the region team, while all five of the remaining runners are slotted to return next year, including Poston, who finished as runner up in the Southeast Region meet.
The women's team landed a pair of runners on the All-Region team as well. Micah Weathers earned the honor thanks in part to her individual title at the Peach Belt Championships and third place finish at regionals. Miranda Taylor also picked up the accolade after consistently finding herself near the top of the leaderboards throughout the season. Both runners are expected to return for their senior season of eligibility.
The Men's team travels to Sacramento, Cal. For the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championships. They will be joined by Micah Weathers of the Women's team, who earned an individual spot in the championships.
