ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Augusta Jaguars women's volleyball team ended the regular season in a Peach Belt Conference road match at Flagler College on Sunday night and lost a 3-1 contest
The Jags (17-15, 8-10 PBC) led first over Flagler (20-6, 16-2 PBC) with a 25-17 victory in set one. Sophomore attackers Savanna Gonzales and Blair Bolton each had five kills and no errors to start the match. Augusta lost two sets by only three points and pushed the Saints to an extra-point battle in the third set, but Flagler fought it off for the win.
Freshman Jessica Hedrick was two kills shy of her career high and led the Jags with 13 kills. Gonzales gave the team 12 kills and Bolton 10. Seniors Jordan Bickett and JaNhea Beisner served up three aces for Augusta, while freshman Payton Murchie provided 28 assists and senior Catherine DeSilvester 26 digs.
Flagler's Megan Hooks had 18 kills to lead the day, Tara Savisky 47 assists, and Kayla Norelli 22 digs.
The Saints overtook the scoreboard early in set two and looked primed for an easy win when they led 18-11. Augusta went on an 8-0 run to steal a one-point advantage, but Flagler scored five straight and held on for a 25-22 set win.
Augusta out-killed Flagler 54-52 in the match, but the Saints had eight blocks to the Jags' four and hit .196 as a team to their .144.
The match was originally planned for mid-November, but the after effects from Hurricane Matthew forced the teams to postpone the contest.
The top eight teams in the PBC standings advance to the PBC Tournament. Augusta currently sits in seventh place and Flagler second place.
