Augusta Volleyball Gains Freshmen Trio For 2016

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University volleyball team signed incoming freshmen Sammie Baker, Jessica Hedrick, and Savanna Roy in the National Letter of Intent (NLI) early signing period for the 2016 season next fall.

The Jaguars gained setter Sammie Baker from Norcross, Ga., middle-blocker Jessica Hedrick from St. Charles, Mo., and outside-hitter Savanna Roy from Tierra Verde, Fla.

Sammie Baker will graduate from Norcross High School in Norcross, Ga., in 2016 where she lettered all four years of volleyball under Coach Jeffrey Cerneka. Baker posted 3,000 career assists during her tenure and was named All-Area, All-County, and played in the Georgia All-Star game as a senior. The team captain as a junior and senior, Baker started all four years of varsity and was named the team MVP as a junior in 2014. Baker played club volleyball for GA5 Volleyball Club in Suwanee, Ga.

Jessica Hedrick plans to graduate from Francis Howell High School in St. Charles, Mo., in 2016 … The 6-2 middle blocker set the single-season record for the most blocks while at Francis Howell and she was named first team All-Conference, second team All-District and second team All-Region during her tenure. Hedrick helped her squad to their seventh consecutive district title in 2015. She was named to the AVCA National Academic team for three years and played club ball for H2 Volleyball in St. Louis, Mo.

Savanna Roy graduates from Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, Fla., in 2016. Along with competing in volleyball for all four years, Roy also lettered in basketball, tennis, and track. She was named a Pinellas County All-Star in 2015 and was named the All-Star MVP that same year. In 2015 and 2013 Roy garnered All-Conference accolades and she earned a bid to the 2015 AAU Junior Olympics. She was the National Volleyball League RIZE Champion in 2015 and she took first place in the Keswick Tournament in 2014-15.
