Augusta Earns Seventh Seed, Travels To Flagler For PBC Quarterfinals

No. 7 Jags face No. 2 Flagler on Tuesday, Nov. 17 in St. Augustine, Fla.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team earned the seventh seed in the Peach Belt Conference and will travel to No. 2 seed Flagler on Tuesday, Nov. 17 for the first-round quarterfinal match of the PBC Tournament at 7:00 p.m.

AUGUSTA vs. FLAGLER (Tuesday, Nov. 17, St. Augustine, Fla., 7:00 p.m.)

The Jags ended the regular-season 19-13 overall and 8-10 in the league. Augusta's current five-match winning streak is the longest in the Peach Belt.

After the quarterfinal matches that are hosted at the top four-seeded teams, the final four will then advance for the semifinals and finals at the site of the highest remaining seed next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20 and 21.

USC Aiken defeated Armstrong State 3-1 on Saturday to capture the PBC regular-season championship and the #1 seed for the tournament. The 14-4 Pacers claim their first regular-season title since 2007, which was also the last time they were the #1 seed and tournament champions.

USCA will host #8 Georgia College on Tuesday. The Bobcats wrapped up play on Wednesday for a 6-12 conference mark. In their third year of the program, GC will make their first-ever tournament appearance.

Flagler and Armstrong finished tied with 13-5 league marks after both fell in their finales on Saturday.  Flagler takes the tiebreak and will be the #2 seed in the tournament. The two split their regular-season matches by identical 3-2 scores. The PBC tiebreak then looks at results against the top seed and Flagler defeated USC Aiken on Friday night, while the Pacers' win at Armstrong on Saturday gave them a season sweep of the Pirates.

Flagler will host #7 Augusta University on Tuesday. Augusta won a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday and have the longest winning streak in the PBC at five. Augusta makes their second straight tournament appearance and are looking for their first spot in the semifinals since 2012.

Third-seeded Armstrong will host #6 Francis Marion on Tuesday. The Pirates are the three-time defending tournament champions and are attempting to become the first PBC team to ever win four straight tournament titles.  Francis Marion finished the season with wins over Montevallo on Friday and Columbus State on Saturday to jump to #6.  FMU is the 2005 tournament champion but have not advanced past the quarterfinal round since 2006.

Montevallo and Lander both won on Saturday in their regular-season finales and were tied with 11-7 conference records.  Montevallo takes the tiebreak as the #4 seed and will host #5 Lander in the first round.  The two teams split their regular-season meetings, however Montevallo had a 3-0 win and a 3-2 loss, giving them five total sets against Lander's three in head-to-head competition.

The winner of the PBC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
