Jags beat Bluefield State and Claflin to wrap regular season play
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Concluding the regular season at Claflin University on Saturday morning, the Augusta University women's volleyball team took down Bluefield State and Claflin for two non-conference victories.
The Jaguars moved to 19-13 overall after the wins and they sit at 8-10 in the Peach Belt Conference as they await the PBC Tournament brackets.
Augusta met Bluefield State (Bluefield, W.Va.) at 10:00 a.m. on Claflin's gym floor and won a 3-1 match thanks to a shared offensive attack.
Sophomore Paige Elliott led the Jags with 11 kills and senior Kailla Baptiste posted nine. Freshman Savanna Gonzales and junior Rachel Windle each carded nine and senior Alyssa Latham provided 36 assists
The Jaguars held Bluefield to a .117 attack percentage, while posting a .297 attack percentage. Augusta started strong with a 25-11 set-one win, but Bluefield responded to tie the match with a 25-22 win. The match was tied 17 times and there were seven lead changes, but the Jags held on for the win winning 25-16 and 25-19 in the final two sets.
Playing against Claflin in game two on the day, the Jags won a convincing 3-0 match. Elliott led the Jags again offensively with 10 kills and Gonzales pitched in nine, while senior Katie Beresford produced eight.
Latham added 29 more assists and Cat DeSilvester matched her match-one 12 digs. The Jags won 25-21 in set one and took sets two and three 25-18.
