Kali Boatwright Posts Career-High 23 Kills In Five Set Loss To Erskine

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University hosted a midweek non-conference match with the Erskine Flying Fleet and the Jags dropped a five-set battle, while sophomore outside-hitter Kali Boatwright recorded a personal career high with 23 kills.

The Jags moved to 14-12 overall with the loss and Erskine improved to 19-5 and continued their 15-match win streak.

Boatwright led all players with 23 kills and Sadie Thurston posted a career-best 56 assists for Augusta. Each teams' offense came to play, with the Jags carding a .272 attack percentage to the Fleets .268.

The Fleet took the opening point, but Jaguar libero Catherine DeSilvester took over the service line and dealt two-consecutive serves to earn an 8-7 lead. DeSilvester dropped in another ace later in the set to steal a 15-14 lead, but the Fleet answered again. Tied 19-19 after an Erskine kill, the Jags went down by two but four more aces from Kali Boatwright willed the team to a 25-21 win.

The Jags and Fleet tied the first set 14 times.

Senior Kailla Baptiste came off the bench and carded two-straight kills to boost the Jags ahead early in set two. A back-and-forth affair carried into a 22-all score and Erskine outlasted Augusta 30-28 to even the match.

Set three saw the Fleet take a 25-19 victory and go ahead 2-1 in the close non-conference contest. The first point of set three didn't go to the Jags, but Augusta made a comeback and went on a 5-1 run. The home team built an 11-5 advantage and Erskine called a timeout. JaNhea Beisner stayed on serve for six-straight points as Augusta cruised to their largest lead at that point 13-6.

The Jags forced a decisive set five with a 25-14 set-four victory, but Erskine won 15-13 to steal the day.

The Jaguars host the UNC Pembroke Braves this Friday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m. The 2015 Senior Day celebration will take place this Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2:00 p.m. when Augusta takes on the Francis Marion Patriots in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
