Strong Start Not Enough In 3-1 Loss To Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – In a Halloween showdown in St. Augustine, Fla., the Augusta University women's volleyball team couldn't hold off the Flagler Saints in a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference loss Saturday afternoon.

Augusta (14-12, 5-10 PBC) continued their road trip towards the coast to meet the Flagler Saints (18-5, 11-3 PBC) and despite an early lead, the Jags fell in four sets.

The Jags were up 16-8 in the middle of the first set and controlled the scoring for the majority of play. Flagler stayed on pursuit and cut the score to 20-19. Augusta senior Kailla Baptiste, sophomore Paige Elliott, and freshman Savanna Gonzales each had three kills in the opening set to help the Jags take a 25-23 victory.

Baptiste led Augusta with 11 kills, while Gonzales and junior Rachel Windle chipped in nine each. Sophomore Kali Boatwright had 27 digs in the match and Sadie Thurston notched 36 assists.

Flagler was down 1-0 in the match and won three-straight sets on their home floor to steal the day. Megan Hooks led the Saints with 14 kills and Jenea Reddick had 13. Augusta had a .087attack percentage to Flagler's .201.

The Jags host Erskine for a non-conference match in Christenberry Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
