Armstrong Too Much For Jaguars In 3-0 Road Loss
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University women's volleyball team battled the defending Peach Belt Conference champions Armstrong State and dropped a 3-0 league match on the road in Savannah, Ga.
The Jags (14-11, 5-9 PBC) battled the Armstrong Pirates (13-8, 9-4 PBC) in all three sets, but couldn't overcome in a divisive third set to fall in the closest meeting of the night. Sophomore outside-hitter Kali Boatwright started in the libero position for the Jags due to injury and dug eight shots with two assists.
Freshman attacker Savanna Gonzales and junior Rachel Windle each posted eight kills to lead the Augusta offensively. Sophomore Sadie Thurston had 23 assists and 10 digs, while sophomore Paige Elliott notched six kills and was involved in five blocks.
JaNhea Beisner was on serve to start set three and the Jags answered the opening points from Armstrong and tied the set at 3-3. After the Pirates went ahead, Paige Elliott recorded a solo block to tie the match at 4-4 and Augusta setter Sadie Thurston enjoyed a block to keep the Jags close.
The Pirates outlasted the Jags 25-19, 25-21, and 25-23 to take the night and sweep the regular-season competition between the two teams. The Jags posted a .211 attack percentage to Armstrong's .288.
The Jaguars continue the road trip on Saturday, Oct. 31 for a Halloween showdown with the Flagler Saints at 2:00 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla.
