AUGUSTA, Ga. – GRU Augusta volleyball senior Maggie Darling and sophomore Catherine Desilvester were named to the 2014 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team, the conference office announced Tuesday morning.
Darling, a senior biology major out of Ontario, Canada, has been a key piece of the Jaguars record-setting season. Maggie has recorded double-digit kills in 12 matches this year. She is also ranked third in the Peach Belt Conference with 0.43 service-aces per set. She leads the team in aces and is third in kills, blocks, and digs.
Desilvester, a sophomore majoring in political science, hails from Carmel, Ind. Catherine has been an integral part of the Jaguars back line this season, as she has posted double-digit digs 30 times. Desilvester ranks third in the Peach Belt Conference in total digs with 580. She is also ranked seventh in digs per set with 4.43
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
GRU Augusta volleyball enjoyed their best regular season in program history, ending with a 26-8 record and a 13-5 mark in the league.
